QUAILS
QUAKERS + AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL LEEDS
The initial meeting of Quails took place on 14th June. It was a 'brainstorming' session to see if we could find a way of giving voice locally to our combined issues. And YES it worked!
It felt a bit like laying rather large eggs but we got there and came up with several very good ideas:
-
to support prisoners of concience imprisoned for their faith. This will take the form of a Letter Fest in the autumn in which we will be introduced to the Amnesty way of supporting them.
-
To seek to know more about the plight of prisoners on release from HMP Leeds. This will be a talk by a member of WYCCP - The West Yorkshire Community Chaplaincy Project.
-
To explore issues around mental health problems of prisoners in HMP Leeds via a talk by a memebr of the Mental Health team there.
-
To support an asylum seeker given only 28 days to fulfil the many matters laid on them by the Home Office. All Hallows Church, Hyde Park already do this and we will arrange for them to come and pass on their experience.
